| The residential history
of the island is quite interesting. That is because Walter B. Gibson,
the |
writer of the famous radio show of the 1930's,
The Shadow, lived in the only house inhabiting the island.
| He wrote the short
story Crime Over Casco in 1946, which was inspired |

| by Maine. He also
wrote for the Maine Antique Digest. |
| He was born September
12th, 1897 and died December 6th, |
| 1985 at the age of
88. Not only was he a famous writer, but a professional magician. |
| He spent most of his
youth in Philadelphia and wrote more |
| than just one great
work of art. In addition to The Shadow, he wrote 187 books, 668
articles to |

| |
| various periodicals,
thought up 283 stories for The |
| Shadow Magazine, 48
syndicated feature columns, helped developed 147 radio scripts,
and told the tales of Blackstone The Magician and The |
| Shadow in 394 comic
books and newspaper strips. He also |
| did many other writings
under various pseudonyms, |
| such as Maxwell Grant.
As a magician, he invented many |
widely used magic tricks and traveled with many famous
| magicians who he befriended. Such
magicians are Howard Thurston, |
| Joseph Dunninger, Harry
Blackstone, Sr., and the ever popular Harry Houdini. |
